The Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday following Holy Cross Day are reckoned as the Fall Ember Days, days set aside since ancient times, and marked with distinctive liturgies, fasting, and abstinence. Ember Saturday is especially important as the day set aside for ordinations.

Please join us in observing prayer and penance for the church and for those in Holy Orders, those about to be ordained, and those discerning vocations.
NOTA BENE-
The Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, The Most Rev’d Steven Lopes has decreed that Ember Friday in September is to be kept as an OBLIGATORY DAY OF ABSTINENCE FROM FLESH MEAT. This is binding on all Catholics within the Ordinariate and may not be replaced by performing some other act of penitence. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. Flesh meat may not be eaten.
